Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our school services students in grades TK through fifth grade.

  • Grades kindergarten through third grade have 24 students in a classroom, and grades fourth and fifth have 33 students in a classroom.

  • Barstow Fine Arts Academy is open to all students in the Barstow Unified School District and outside of the district. We encourage and welcome all families who are interested to submit an application for enrollment during the application window. We are committed to having a population that reflects our diverse community with students from all backgrounds and abilities, races, ethnicities, national origins, sexes, genders, and religions.

  • The best time to apply to Barstow Fine Arts Academy is during our yearly open enrollment window that coincides with Barstow STEM Academy’s open enrollment window; this typically occurs early spring in February of each year. Once the dates have been set for the 2023-2024 school year open enrollment window, we will be sure to advertise to all of our families.

When our application period is closed,  we will fill spots as vacancies occur from the wait list. The odds of admission depend greatly on when a family applies and how many families apply. We encourage families with an interest in the Barstow Fine Arts Academy to apply for enrollment as soon as possible. Because Barstow Fine Arts Academy starts in Kindergarten, spots in first through fifth grade are limited and we will not know how many spaces we will have open until late in the school year or even the fall for the coming school year.

  • Once accepted to Barstow Fine Arts Academy, you do not need to reapply each year. Enrollment will carry over and students will remain enrolled until they are enrolled in another school.

Families who apply but whose student does not get accepted that year will have to reapply when the window opens in February, as the wait list does not carry over.

  • Yes, transportation is available to all students within the BUSD district. Students who are attending Barstow Fine Arts Academy residing outside of BUSD will need to provide their own transportation.

  • Yes, like other BUSD schools, Barstow Fine Arts Academy offers free breakfast and lunch daily to all students.

  • Parent lunches can happen once per month on advertised days. Parents/guardians are invited to have lunch with their student on campus. These adults must show I.D. in the front office to receive a visitor badge before entering campus. Adults may bring lunch for themselves and their student if they choose. Students are still welcome to get free lunch for themselves from the cafeteria. We will have supervisors on campus to show you where to sit, either in the cafeteria or amphitheater. Adults are to arrive a few minutes before their student’s lunch time and leave when lunch for that grade level is over. If the adult has students in multiple grades, they can stay for each of the lunch periods, however, we cannot pull students from different grade levels to sit at lunch all together. Students can have friends sit with their family but cannot share food brought by another family without written permission from that friend’s parent/guardian. Lunch recess will be announced for first grade and up, at which time parents may join their student on the big playground. When the lunch period ends, we ask that adults exit through the front office, leaving their visitor badge at the front desk.
